Every single new organization which have been joined in New Zealand ought to have subtleties of the executives and the investors alongside the assent structures which are marked by the chief and the investors. The location subtleties for the report administrations and the enlisted office situated in New Zealand and the location for the correspondence with the organization. There must likewise be any extra records and subtleties which are mentioned by the New Zealand Company Office including the confirmation of the recognizable proof of the investors and the chiefs like affirmed duplicates of the visa of the executive and the utilities bill to recognize the personality of the executive and the private location The idea of misconception particularly for the proprietors of private company is ensuring individual riches. Numerous entrepreneurs are worthwhile of costly resource security plan. Australian Corporate Law needs chiefs so as to act to the greatest advantage of the organization to which they are selected. Best of Book Riot Ode to Enthusiasm

Best of Book Riot Ode to Enthusiasm To celebrate the end of the year, were running some of our favorite posts from the last six months. Well be back with all-new stuff on January 7th. ____________________________ This will come as no shock to the people who know me people who have seen me dance for joy over a roast dinner, people who have watched me literally vibrate with excitement over the release of an anticipated book or movie or nail polish colour, people who have witnessed me genuinely squealing at the discovery of a new word to play with but I am an enthusiastic person. You know how Muppets flail their arms in excitement? I have done that over a carton of chocolate milk. (It was seriously the best chocolate milk Id ever had. Organic, made with cocoa. Youd die.) Life is fucking rad, guys. Like it really, really is. I used to be a too-cool-for-school cynic, but life was so boring. Because you can always find the mediocre and make fun of it. Finding the really great is a lot more challenging, and telling people about it is a lot more fun. Never before has it occurred to me that my enthusiasm suggested a lack of capacity for critical thought. But yesterday, fellow Rioter Jodi wrote  a piece about what she perceived as misplaced enthusiasm that rubbed me all kinds of the wrong way. So heres my enthusiastic, slightly crotchety response. I think Jodi misses two things: 1. Just because I only talk about things I am enthusiastic about does not mean I am enthusiastic about all things. 2. Sometimes it just feels like life is too short to spend my downtime thinking about things that dont delight me. I shall address these points enthusiastically in turn. First, I really like talking about things that have moved me, stunned me, amazed me, made me leap for joy. Not everything does. I dont blog about every book I read. I blog about the books I cant not talk about. The books that make me want you to have the same experience I did. The books that turn my world upside down. The books that make me laugh. I dont blog about forgettable books because that seems like a fantastic waste of my time. You know, theres a lot of stuff on the internet. There are a lot of very ranty book blogs out there. Book blogs that focus on the negative. Book blogs that make me think, No, but seriously, do you even like books? And I dont seek those blogs out to read very often. Im much more interested in being pointed, and in turn pointing you, in the direction of good stuff. (Like right now, Im reading Ed Riches EASY TO LIKE, and its a really charming read a funny cultural satire I would recommend to lovers of wine and cinema and the CBC. I could tell you about the book I read on the plane that kind of bored me silly, but I dont want to spend energy on that book. Its not fun to me.) Which leads me to point two: blogging is a thing I do for fun. I loves ya, Book Riot, but you dont pay the bills, so I better enjoy the time I spend with you. And I do, because I choose to talk about things that delight me. In my day job, I write literary criticism and read undergraduate essays. Trust me, I get umpteen chances every day to think critically and reconstruct the literary world for the better (ha!). In my downtime, I want to read and discuss awesome things. Because heres the reality: telling you about a book that made me happy, and finding out it made you happy? That makes me happy all over again. And thats amazing. Amazing. I could tell you about all the books I read with problematic plot structure and bland description, but Id rather just not talk about those books at all. I want to focus on the good. I read freshman composition papers for a living.  For gods sake, leave me a moment in the day to focus on the good. So if this is the way you read enthusiasm The only thing more annoying than people who hate everything are people that love everything. As a reader, hearing how much someone loves every book they read tells me nothing about the book. It does tell me a lot about the enthusiast. It tells me they can’t think critically, are afraid to offer up a real opinion, or they don’t know how to form a cogent argument about a book. you may want to do some critical thinking about it.

6 tips for succeeding in business school Hult Blog

Written by Pablo Romero Yusta, Master of International Marketing student, San Francisco campus, Class of 2016 The most commonly asked question we as future students ask ourselves is, â€Å"what can I do now to prepare for my business school?† Perhaps you have sent in your deposit already and started looking at housing on your main campus. Maybe you have connected with your fellow Hultians on  Facebook groups to begin networking. You may also be brushing up on your personal budget spreadsheet. And maybe the most difficult of all, you may be getting over the hurdle of telling your boss that you are resigning your current position to attend business school. This is certainly a great start before you embark on this life-changing experience. However, while you are preparing for school and planning summer vacations, all of us here at Hult are looking to do the exact opposite. In our case, summer entails hands-on experience through summer internships and hunting for our dream job. Life as a graduate is rewarding in many ways, cherish every minute of it! These are the 6 tips I would have found helpful before I embarked on this  journey are: Before you leave your current jobs, I recommend you write down a list of the projects you have worked on, the impact you made, and the people you worked with. This will be tremendously helpful to have references as you prepare for behavioral type interviews. Now you may think you will remember everything when potential employers ask you those dreaded â€Å"give me a situation when†¦Ã¢â‚¬ interview questions, but trust me it will be difficult. Likewise, you might want to create a work portfolio to showcase your previous work to potential employers, so take with you all the work you have done, keeping in mind what is ethically correct and what not. Start networking: You may believe it is too early and you do not even know who to connect with. Like it or not, networking will be a crucial part in determining the success in finding your dream job -the sooner you start the better. Get used to breaking out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself to be bold. My advice on this? Don’t be shy to reach out to people and always keep in mind that 80% of today’s jobs are landed through networking. Get started today using LinkedIn to find alumni and professionals in your field of interest and start nurturing your relationships. Create a list of things you would like to do: Whether it is taking on a volunteer project in Dubai, practicing your Mandarin in Shanghai, or discovering the entrepreneurial spirit of San Francisco, time flies when you are a graduate student! It’s OK if you do not have any concrete goals right now. However, try to start thinking about them as soon as you can because you will surely have to plan your time in a way that allows you to pursue them with your busy schedule. Firm up on your industry knowledge: Some of you, like myself, do not have a business background so it is advisable to become familiar with business language. Hult will provide you with the fundamentals during Toolbox; nevertheless, spending some of your spare time reading news outlets such as Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, and The Economist will be a great start as well. Start thinking about your career: the job hunt begins shortly after you step onto campus and you will likely spend a great part of your time with your career advisor in hopes of landing your dream job. Think of industries and companies you want to be a part of, but do not panic if you have no idea yet. You will have time to explore your options and Hult will guide you at all times so the experience is not overwhelming. Relax and get ready with your loved ones: Once the bell rings at Hult, your days (and often nights) will be consumed by classes, presentations, readings, and socializing with your peers. So have some fun this summer and get yourself ready! Also, spend your final weeks with your family and friends. Coming to Hult will certainly be one of the most vibrant and enriching experiences of your live, but being far away from home will be hard at certain times. All of this made my transition to business school way smoother but there are countless of other things you can do. Do not feel like you are behind if you choose not to do them now. If you have secured your seat in this top program, it means that Hult believes you absolutely have what is necessary to handle the rigor of a master degree, regardless of whether you do these things now or later on! Who Wrote William Shakespeares Plays

Shakespeare’s true identity has been in dispute since the Eighteenth Century because only fragments of evidence have survived the 400 years since his death. Although we know a great deal about his legacy through his plays and sonnets, we know little about the man himself - Exactly who was Shakespeare?. Unsurprisingly then, a number of conspiracy theories have built up around Shakespeare’s true identity. Shakespeare Authorship There are a number of theories surrounding the authorship of Shakespeare’s plays, but most are based on one of the following three ideas: The William Shakespeare of Stratford-upon-Avon and the William Shakespeare working in London were two separate people. They have been falsely connected by historians.Someone called William Shakespeare did work with Burbage’s theater company at The Globe, but did not write the plays. Shakespeare was putting his name to plays given to him by someone else.William Shakespeare was a pen name for another writer – or perhaps a group of writers These theories have sprung up because the evidence surrounding Shakespeare’s life is insufficient – not necessarily contradictory. The following reasons are often cited as evidence that Shakespeare didn’t write Shakespeare (despite a distinct lack of evidence): Someone Else Wrote the Plays Because The will of the world’s greatest writer did not itemize any books (however, the inventory part of the will has been lost)Shakespeare did not have the university education required to write with such knowledge of the classics (although he would have been introduced to the classics at school in Stratford-upon-Avon)There is no record of Shakespeare ever attending Stratford-upon-Avon grammar school (however, school records were not kept back then)When Shakespeare died, none of his contemporary writers made tribute to him (although references were made during his lifetime) Exactly who wrote under the name of William Shakespeare and why they needed to use a pseudonym is unclear. Perhaps the plays were written to instill political propaganda? Or to hide the identity of some high-profile public figure? The Main Culprits in the Authorship Debate Are Christopher Marlowe He was born in the same year as Shakespeare, but died around the same time that Shakespeare started to write his plays. Marlowe was England’s best playwright until Shakespeare came along – perhaps he didn’t die and continued writing under a different name? He was apparently stabbed in a tavern, but there is evidence that Marlowe was working as a government spy, so his death might have been choreographed. Edward de Vere Many of Shakespeare’s plots and characters parallel events in the life of Edward de Vere. Although this art-loving Earl of Oxford would have been educated enough to write the plays, their political content could have ruined his social standing – perhaps he needed to to write under a pseudonym? Sir Francis Bacon The theory that Bacon was the only man intelligent enough to write these plays has become known as Baconianism. Although it is unclear why he would have needed to write under a pseudonym, followers of this theory believe that he left behind cryptic ciphers in the texts to reveal his true identity.

Denise Sparks Professor Dr. Kelly Jernigan History 121 24 March 2017 The Assassination of Julius Caesar The first article in the chosen reading is entitled â€Å"The Assassination of Julius Caesar, 44 B.C.†. Primarily it took on the position that Caesar was a selfish dictator. The exception to that in this article was the discussion about how Caesar had Cleopatra put into power to rule Egypt. The prime example of the view concerning Caesar being a selfish dictator comes from the discussion of his planned assignation. The paragraph from eyewitness history.com states, â€Å"Caesar continued to consolidate his power and in February 44 BC, he declared himself dictator for life. This act, along with his continual effort to adorn himself with the†¦show more content†¦As this is a detailed account from Marcus Brutus, it describes the events leading up to and the eventual assassination of Julius Caesar. The disdain is quite evident throughout the article. The most poignant quote from the article acquired from Sourcebooks.fordham.edu st ates, â€Å"Caesar does not hinder me, nor will he hinder me, from doing according to the laws.† This statement is in keeping with the entirety of the article. These portrayals from required articles take a stance that is different than our textbooks. The stance our textbook takes is much more suited to Caesar being not only a great politician but, leader. It goes on to discuss his many successful endeavors, the opinions of his troops, and the vast empire he had acquired. The descriptive nature of the text uses such words as â€Å"awed† and â€Å"boldness† when describing his leadership qualities and, opinions of his troops. This is displayed in our text by, â€Å"Caesar won his soldiers’ loyalty with victories and plunder I Gaul, which he added to the Roman provinces, and he awed his troops with his boldness by crossing the channel to campaign in Britain.† (Hunt, Martin, Rosenwein, Smith 164). Another example of the views of his troops is s tated as, â€Å"Caesar led his army against Rome. As he crossed Rubicon River, the official northern boundary of Italy, in early 49 B.C.E., he uttered the famous words signaling that there was now no turning back: â€Å"Let’s roll the dice.† His

Mexican Labor Unions and Economic Reforms Over the Past...

Mexican Labor Unions and Economic Reforms Over the Past 20 Years INTRODUCTION: Since labor unions in Mexico were originally formed in the early 1900s, they have maintained a unique system of collaboration and collusion with the government of Mexico. Though many may refer to their system as one of â€Å"corruption,† it is a system that has become so deeply imbedded in the relationship between labor unions and the government, that it is now a well-understood unofficial network. Over the past 20 years in Mexico, a great deal of progress has been made toward the liberalization of the Mexican markets. Previously government-owned companies have been privatized, foreign investment has boomed, and a once one-party system has just recently†¦show more content†¦Following the fall of Dà az in 1911, the ban on labor unions was lifted, and several unions began to develop throughout the country. The close interaction between government officials and labor union officials began early in the history of labor unions in Mexico. Starting in 1914, during the revolution in Mexico, an established labor organization, the Casa del Obrero Mundial, agreed to fight for the side of the Mexican President, under the condition that he promise to help them organize branches of their unions in every city that was conquered (Otero, 1999). The government and unions remained loyal to one another until a protest occurred in 1916 by the union, demanding wages to be paid in gold or silver. Carranza arrested the leaders of the protest, and began the support of a new labor union, the Confederacià ³n Regional Obrera Mexicana (CROM), under the condition that they would be subservient to the government. By the time an actual labor law was established in 1931, it was no surprise that it was based on a document that was fascist in nature, the Italian Carta di Lavoror. The system it established was one in which the government controlled the unions, selected their leaders, and repressed strikes and bargaining (Torres, 2000). Immediately, organized labor became an integral part of the government and its economicShow MoreRelatedEssay on Immigration Issues Between UU And Mexico1256 Words   |  6 Pagesleast for the past 30 years, and is one of the most difficult to resolve. The invasion involved 326,000 British, American, and Canadian troops spread among five beaches. The Allies were victorious due to Nazi mistakes. For years the nation had gone without a leader, each person was self-reliant and had no one to watch over them. We will write a custom essay sample on The Snake and the Pharaoh or any similar topic only for you Order Now When the people realized it was time to change they searched far and wide among the people of the Nile valley to find someone who was worthy to rule over them. It took them many months to find the perfect man, Manelik, who already had a wife. He was the most respected, honest and caring man in all the region and the people felt he was a prime ruler for them. Manelik and Consuela could not have children but they wanted one so badly. When the people saw what an excellent Pharaoh Manelik was, they entreated Min, the god of fertility who gave them only one child and by that time they were already over sixty years old. When Manelik’s parents died the people immediately declared that he would be heir to the throne at only twelve years old. A wise man in Egypt always used to say â€Å"love, just like wine, can blind the eyes and numb the mind.† And this is exactly what happened to Demius. As Demius got old he became more and more lonely and really desired a wife. Every week he would hold a gala and invite all the citizens of the Nile valley to enjoy the festivities. But what they did not know was that he was using this as an opportunity to seek out the perfect bride. And then he saw her. One night, dressed elegantly in lace as blue as the sky, with a face as lovely as a lily, a smile as bright as the sunshine and a beauty he had never before imagined.   He enquired about her and found out that she had a magnificent singing voice and if there was anything she loved more than singing it was dancing. Oh she was his dream come true. Unfortunately, she was engaged to be married to Anaki, said to be the best dancer throughout all the Nile Valley. Determined that he could win her over he ceaselessly tried to pursue her until she relented, under one condition. At his next party Anaki and Demius could compete for her hand in a dance. They each had to dance with her and the best dancer would be her husband. Knowing full well he could never beat Anaki at dancing, because he had seen him dance and he was, indeed, the best, Demius thought of a way he could win the competition. Demius was very good friends with the gods, and he remembered the story of how when his parents wanted a child the gods had come to their rescue. So he summoned Artemis, the goddess of nature, explained his situation to her and asked her to come to make Demius unable to dance. Artemis told him to go to the gala and she would take care of everything. On the night of the dance Demius dressed in his finest apparel and entered the dancing room. When the time came for the dance and he could not find Anaki he was very pleased, knowing that Artemis had helped him. That night he danced with Gattin and, since Demius did not show up, he was declared to be the winner and she kept her vow and promised to marry him. In the night when Demius went to bed he was elated because he had finally found his bride. But as he went to lie in bed he saw this creature with no hands, and no legs, curled up in his bed. It was Anaki, Artemis had taken away his hands and legs so that he could no longer dance. But Artemis had also made a deal with Anaki. You see she was secretly in love with Demius, but he was not interested in her, and paid her no mind. She did not want him to marry another. Though she could not go back on her word to Demius she bottled up all of Anaki’s anger and turned it into poison and placed it in his tongue. That night Demius was bitten by Anaki, who became known as Snake, because he could not speak properly with the poison on his tongue. Demius may have won the dance, but he died without getting his bride. The people of the Nile, when they learnt of Demius’ evil tricks, hated him so much that they did not bury his body but built a tomb around his palace instead so that he would stand out as a reminder forever, of the wicked effects of envy. The company that has been taken into considering is HCF to illustrate the benefits of the innovation using the platform of Enterprise System. The company is basically a financing company (Soja, 2016). Redeeming the traditional infrastructure of the organization the organization has now shifted to Enterprise System infrastructures. The main efficient action that is caused by the Enterprise System as it provides the organization has the real time observation strategy. The main benefit that the organization enjoys due to the Real Time observation is the benefit of monitoring the access of the mass on the information system and the data center of the organization (Norman, 2015). This aspect ensures the fact that the potential clients can be traced with the help of the real time observation technology. Real time observation also enabled the organization to understand their most visited and the most in demand policy of the company which helps in tracking the demand of the clients and the p rocedures to gain an access o the wants of the clients. This feature also enables the organization to get the reviews of the clients regarding the plans and the ideas of the organization. This helped the organization to grow as an elite financing organization. This technology also helps in tracking the real IP address of the clients who checked into the data center (Lech, 2016). This enabled the organization to detect the Identity of the clients and detector the imposters. This technology enabled the organization to stay away from the imposters who wanted to harm the organization. The technology of having the real time observation also served the benefit of tracking the clients in the global base and helped the organization to track the global clients of the organization. This helps the organization to track their client base all over the globe and the set the plan of the business throughout the world. The company that has been taken into consideration to illustrate the innovation that has been brought in by the Enterprise System is Queensland Sugar (Lech, 2014). The main innovation that has been the blessing for the company is the platform that has been provided by the platform of Enterprise System. Queensland Sugar has one of the most successful wholesale trade companies of sugar in Australia (Ekman, 2015). Hairspray and Tracy free essay sample

Tracy is played by Nikki Blonsky. Tracy is joined by her best friend, Penny Pingleton (Amanda Bynes), and semi-supportive parents (Christopher Walken and John Travolta). Once Tracy earns her spot on the show, she goes head to head with Velma Von Tussle (Michelle Pfeiffer), manager of the TV station that produces The Corny Collins Show. Velma likes her dancers thin and white. Tracy joins together with some new friends, (Queen Latifah and Elijah Kelley), to give Velma Von Tussle and Baltimore a â€Å"Miss Teenage Hairspray† pageant like they had never seen. In the end, Tracy integrates the show and wins the man of her dreams, Link Larkin (Zac Efron), all with perfect hair. The music in Hairspray centers on 1960’s pop and RB. Two of my favorite songs are â€Å"I Can Hear the Bells,† sung by Tracy Turnblad, and â€Å"Ladies’ Choice,† sung by Link Larkin. â€Å"I Can Hear the Bells† is written in 4/4 meter. We will write a custom essay sample on Hairspray and Tracy or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Dynamically, the song starts softly, piano, played by upper strings and woodwinds, and builds as Tracy gains self-confidence in her plan to woo Link. Different percussion instruments play a big part of this song, portraying the ‘bells’ Tracy keeps hearing. Nikki Blonsky’s mezzo-soprano voice is perfect for this heartfelt song. â€Å"Ladies Choice† is a 60’s style pop-rock song written for the movie. This song gives Zac Efron a perfect showcase for his mellow tenor voice and rock star style. Link sings the song at the ‘hop’ he invited Tracy to dance at. The allegro tempo of the song is perfect for dancingthis is where Tracy wins her spot on The Corny Collins Show. One memorable part of this song is the harmony played by the double bass. The groovy bass sound is the perfect undertone for the upbeat melody. Aside from the music, I also thoroughly enjoy the setting of Hairspray. As I said before, it is set in 1960’s Baltimore. The show pokes fun at a lot of ‘normal’ 1960 ideals. One scene portrays Tracy and her mother, Edna, watching a group of pregnant mothers in a bar drinking and smoking. Tracy and Edna think the mothers are â€Å"so glamorous. † At one point, Tracy hides from the authorities in Penny’s family’s bomb shelter. Penny doesn’t know why they have the shelter, but it has â€Å"†¦food, water, †¦gas masks and Russian language books. The way the writers make fun of the era brings a lot of laughter to the movie. Personally, I love Hairspray—for many reasons. The music is fun and easy to enjoy. No matter how many times I watch it, I can count on it to cheer me up. Also, Hairspray is the only musical film my family enjoys as much as I do. As soon as Tracy starts singing â€Å"Good Morning Baltimore,† the boy s start singing along and my girls start dancing. Besides birthday cake, nothing brings my family together like Tracy Turnblad and Hairspray.

Beowulf Grendel Synthesis essay free essay sample

Friedrich Nietzsche once said, â€Å"What does nihilism mean? That the highest values devaluate themselves. The aim is lacking; ‘why? ’ finds no answer†. Nietzsche reasons that when a society values anything—an object, a person, or a philosophy—it becomes a challenge to see who can obtain it, and those who cannot, form this idea that the value is pointless. He goes on to say that while those who cannot obtain it may act like they don’t care about this value, they still ask ‘why?  Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ to try to understand why others see its value, but are never able to and are rejected by their society. Grendel and the Anglo-Saxon society are an example of this. While the Anglo-Saxons went about their life, Grendel watched from a distance. Although Grendel had never been a part of the Anglo-Saxon society, he tried to understand them. In this scenario, Grendel is seen as the reject, being that he had tried to befriend them but was unsuccessful, whic h causes him to question life and act out. We will write a custom essay sample on Beowulf Grendel Synthesis essay or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page By comparing the Anglo-Saxon’s beliefs and attitude with Grendel’s, one can see that Grendel develops a nihilistic view as a way to, emotionally, protect himself. In order to understand why Grendel was rejected, one must consider the society’s values and where he was coming from. Grendel spent most of his time his time observing the Anglo-Saxon society yet he did not have the same attitude towards their values as them, so they reject him. Part of the Scyldings’s culture was to fight neighboring kingdoms to protect their kingdom. As a peace offering, the neighboring king gave Hrothgar, the king of the Scyldings, his sister. This was not an odd offering as Hrothgar willingly accepted her but Grendel did not understand: â€Å"My chest was full of pain, my eyes smarted, and I was afraid—O monstrous trick against reason—I was afraid I was about to sob. I wanted to smash things, bring down the night with my howl of rage† (Gardner, 100). To Hrothgar, receiving the woman was simply part of a business transaction, but to Grendel it was disgusting. Grendel’s mixed emotions reveal that he cares about others but also doesn’t understand why some traditions are acceptable. Similarly, when Beowulf is talking about fighting Grendel, he talks about his God’s role in the fight. He points out that â€Å"God can easily halt these raids and harrowing attacks† (Beowulf, 478-479). Not only does the reference to God convey that the members of their society put much faith in their God but also confusion as to why their God would punish them by creating monsters to attack them. Both instances offer examples of people putting faith in a higher power to do the right thing but lose confidence in them and become conflicted. The higher power lets the people down, revealing conflicting values, which can be a result of lack of communication. Not only do Grendel and the Anglo- Saxons have different values, they also have no way to communicate, which would enable them to find a common ground and understand where each other is coming from. During one of Grendel’s raids, he faced Unferth, and attempted to be witty as he challenged him. Unferth did not understand, even as Grendel repeated himself louder and slower, but â€Å"even [then] he didn’t know what [Grendel] was saying† (Gardner, 83). While Grendel did not have good intentions, his motives were unclear to Unferth and the other humans as he tried to speak to them. Although Unferth did not need to ask what Grendel was planning on doing, the capability to communicate is clearly lacking. An outside source could be of help. The Shaper, a man who tells stories of the past, was telling a story that Grendel already knew of yet had a different viewpoint as to what happened. As Grendel listened, he explained, â€Å"The man had changed the world, had torn up the past by its thick, gnarled roots and had transmuted it, and they, who knew the truth, remembered it his way—and so did I† (Gardner, 43). Grendel knows the â€Å"real story† but that doesn’t matter because the Shaper was so convincing that Grendel had this feeling that the Shaper was right. Grendel also said that he wasn’t the only one who remembered the story differently, but they, too, believed it happened as the Shaper said. This one, minor incident shows that Grendel and the Anglo-Saxons are capable of agreeing, it’s just a matter of finding someway—or someone—to communicate to each other. This lack of understanding leads to Grendel being rejected from their society. Even though Grendel is rejected, he still wants to be a part of their society, even if he acts like he doesn’t care. Being shunned was not something that only happened to Grendel. It is part of the Anglo-Saxon way to get rid of those who are not seen as fit for their society. An old  teacher was talking to Hrothulf, Hrothgar’s son, about how their system works. Explaining the order of importance of certain groups of people, he said, â€Å"Rewards to people who fit the System best†¦till you come to the people who don’t fit at all. No problem. Drive them to the darkest corners of the kingdom, starve them, throw them in jail or put them out to war† (Gardner, 118). As the quote explains, t hose who don’t fit, do not belong in their society. From the old teacher’s words, it is clear that they don’t care what happens to them, just as long as they are not around those who truly fit â€Å"the System†. Likewise, while the Scyldings knew that Grendel had been tormenting other groups nearby, they were not worried because they believed â€Å"Grendel waged his lonely war†¦but the throne itself, the treasure-seat, he was kept from approaching; he was the Lord’s outcast† (Beowulf, 168). The Anglo-Saxons thought that everything was the way it was because of their Lord. While they understood that Grendel mostly acted out simply because he was lonely, they continued to ignore him, calling him an outcast because he didn’t fit into their society like â€Å"the System† described. Regardless, he still wanted to be a part of their society, seen in his view of them. Grendel went to the Dragon in hopes that he would be able to explain the Scyldings values to him, to better fit in. Instead, the Dragon tried to convince him that it was good for them to be scared of Grendel because it was part of their purpose in life. Grendel considered the Dragon’s advice, reasoning, â€Å"Fill their nights with nightmares, just for sport† (Gardner, 60). While Grendel had his reasons—needing to eat to survive or wanting to have a role in their society—for his actions, that was as far as he would go. When the Dragon told him to scare them for fun, it conflicted with his morals because he knew it would destroy any hope of fitting in. Both sides had some morals and values they took into consideration when it came to dealing with each other. Unfortunately, both of them were not on the same page, so while Grendel was trying his hardest to fit in, the Anglo-Saxons were doing everything in their power to keep him out. After Grendel talks to the Dragon, he begins to see the world in two different ways. The first way Grendel sees the world is how he has since he was a child, full of wonderful possibilities. It is this side that clings to the slightest chance that everything will work out and he will finally be accepted. On the other hand, there is a dark side to him that only wants to destroy their whole society and live alone. These two sides often collide, especially when Grendel is in contact with the members of the society. For example, Grendel was about to tear the Queen apart when he stopped. After promising that nothing would change his mind, he changed his own mind: â€Å"It would be meaningless killing her. As meaningless and letting her live† (Gardner, 110). Grendel’s split beliefs are seen as he sways back and forth when considering how to act. Although part of Grendel pretends not to care what the Anglo-Saxons think of him, their belief that â€Å"Behavior that’s admired is the path to power among people† (Beowulf, 24-25) clearly sticks with him as he chooses to do the right thing and leave her be, even if he tells himself that she will be more likely to suffer while living. It is this half nihilistic view that drives Grendel to continue to search out the purpose in life and to see if he will ever be accepted by the members of the Anglo-Saxon society. Society chooses a value so that the members feel as if they have a purpose and would rather not question if there really is a purpose. When one does decide to question, society rejects them and they become an outcast. As an outcast, one may waver between believing themselves and society, causing one to act out. Eventually, reality sets in and one must accept one’s fate. While one may not seem to care after a period of time, one may actually still be clinging to any hope of acceptance into society, the source of their will to live.

Why Churchill Lost the 1945 Election

Why Churchill Lost the 1945 Election In 1945 Britain, an event occurred which still causes shocked questions from around the world: how did Winston Churchill, the man who had led Britain to victory in the Second World War, get voted out of office at the moment of his greatest success, and by such an apparently large margin. To many it looks like Britain was supremely ungrateful, but push deeper and you find that Churchill’s total focus on the war allowed he, and his political party, to take their eyes off the mood of the British People, allowing their pre-war reputations to weigh them down. Churchill and the Wartime Consensus In 1940 Winston Churchill was appointed Prime Minister of a Britain who appeared to be losing the Second World War against Germany. Having been in and out of favor over a long career, having been ousted from one government in World War One only to return later to great effect, and as a long-standing critic of Hitler, he was an interesting choice. He created a coalition drawing on the three main parties of Britain – Labour, Liberal, and Conservative – and turned all his attention to fighting the war. As he masterfully kept the coalition together, kept the military together, kept international alliances between capitalist and communist together, so he rejected pursuing party politics, refusing to aggrandize his Conservative party with the successes he and Britain began to experience. For many modern viewers, it might seem that handling the war would merit re-election, but when the war was coming to a conclusion, and when Britain divided back into party politics for the el ection of 1945, Churchill found himself at a disadvantage as his grasp of what people wanted, or at least what to offer them, had not developed. Churchill had passed through several political parties in his career and had led the Conservatives in the early war in order to press his ideas for the war. Some fellow conservatives, this time of a far longer tenure, began to worry during the war that while Labour and other parties were still campaigning – attacking the Tories for appeasement, unemployment, economic disarray – Churchill was not doing the same for them, focusing instead on unity and victory. Churchill Misses Reform One area where the Labour party were having success campaigning during the war was reform. Welfare reforms and other social measures had been developing before World War 2, but in the early years of his government, Churchill had been induced into commissioning a report on how Britain could rebuild after it. The report had been chaired by William Beveridge and would take his name. Churchill  and others were surprised that the findings went beyond the rebuilding they’d envisioned, and presented nothing less than a social and welfare revolution. But the hopes of Britain were growing as the war seemed to be turning, and there was vast support for Beveridge’s report to be turned into a reality, a great new dawn. Social issues now dominated the part of British political life that was not taken up with the war, and Churchill and the Tories slipped back in the public’s mind. Churchill, a one-time reformer, wished to avoid anything which might fracture the coalition and didn’t back the report as much as he might; he was also dismissive of Beveridge, the man, and his ideas. Churchill thus made it clear he was putting off the issue of social reform until after the elections, while Labour did as much as they could to demand it being put into practice sooner, and then promised it after the election. Labour became associated with the reforms, and the Tories were accused of being against them. In addition, Labour’s contribution to the coalition government had earned them respect: people who had doubted them before began to believe Labour could run a reforming administration. The Date Is Set, the Campaign Fought World War 2 in Europe was declared over on May 8th, 1945, the coalition ended on May 23rd, and the elections were set for July 5th, although there would have to be extra time to gather the votes of the troops. Labour began a powerful campaign aimed at reform and made sure to take their message to both those in Britain and those who had been forced abroad. Years later, soldiers reported being made aware of Labour’s goals, but not hearing anything from the Tories. In contrast, Churchill’s campaign seemed to be more about re-electing him, built around his personality and what he’d achieved in the war. For once, he got the thoughts of the British public every wrong: there was still the war in the East to finish, so Churchill seemed distracted by that. The electorate was more open to the promises of Labour and the changes of the future, not the paranoia about socialism that the Tories tried to spread; they weren’t open to the actions of a man who had won the war, but whose party had not been forgiven for the years before it, and a man who had never seemed – up to now – entirely comfortable with peace. When he compared a Labour-run Britain to the Nazis and claimed Labour would need a Gestapo, people were not impressed, and memories of the Conservative inter-war failures, and even of Lloyd George’s failure to deliver post World War 1, were strong. Labour Win The results began coming in on July 25th and soon revealed Labour winning 393 seats, which gave them a dominant majority. Attlee was Prime Minister, they could carry out the reforms they wished, and Churchill seemed to have been defeated in a landslide, although the overall voting percentages were much closer. Labour won nearly twelve million votes, to nearly ten million Tory, and so the nation wasn’t quite as united in its mindset as it might appear. A war-weary Britain with one eye on the future had rejected a party which had been complacent and a man who had focused entirely on the nation’s good, to his own detriment. However, Churchill had been rejected before, and he had one last comeback to make. He spent the next few years reinventing himself once more and was able to resume power as a peacetime Prime Minister in 1951.
